December 13, Oxford's Safe Return to Athletics

Dear Wildcat Nation,

The return of athletics is a symbol of our community coming together and embarking on the long journey of healing we are all experiencing.

I want to announce our Oxford High School Athletic Department will return to competition today with a bowling match between Oxford High School and Ferndale High School.

There are also multiple other sporting events coming up, including wrestling, cheerleading, basketball, skiing and swimming and diving. This is an opportunity for our student athletes and greater Oxford community to return to a sense of normalcy, have fun, and interact with their peers through healthy and safe competition.

Please know the district has consulted with mental health experts and law enforcement officials on the return of athletics, and the resounding recommendation was to give students opportunities to interact with their peers. Multiple coaches and members of the community will be on hand during tonight’s match to support Oxford High School student athletes.

We are excited for our student athletes to get back out there and re-establish the camaraderie they have with their peers. It’s going to be great seeing them having fun, laughing together, and enjoying their sport, and we encourage our entire Oxford community to rally in support of these students.

Oxford StrOng,
Tim Throne, Superintendent
