Dear Wildcat Nation,
We are grateful for a successful week back at school for so many of our Wildcats! The new OCSD comfort puppy named Oxford made his debut in district buildings this week and has quickly melted hearts. OHS students had a great time on Wednesday evening together at Top Golf and it was so good to see their smiles again. We look forward to welcoming our high school students and staff to OMS next Tuesday as they begin their slow and safe return.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our tele-town halls this week. We had nearly 4,000 participants, including hundreds of you who called in to ask questions, share perspectives and ideas, as well as give us feedback in polls. These links can also be accessed on our FAQ's page on the website. Be assured, we very much value and are taking into account all of the information, feedback and questions you have shared. We will only grow stronger through this by working together.
We also know every person’s road to healing is different and no Wildcat is expected to heal on their own. Please see our website for support and resources for coping with trauma.
I also want to update you that Nutrition Services will be distributing meals for our high school students in the north lot bus loop of OHS between 3 pm – 4 pm. During the half-days the high school students are at OMS next week, breakfast will be served in the OMS cafeteria prior to the school day and grab-and-go lunches will be available for students to take with them as they leave.
Also, I need to update you on our COVID numbers. Unfortunately, the virus is not something that has gone away during our tragedy. As of now, we have reports of over 60 confirmed COVID cases across the district this week. Given the current trend and the prevalence of the new COVID variant, it is fair to assume that COVID could be present in every classroom and building. The OCHD has not mandated that the district send classroom or building COVID notification letters. Although in the past we have done this as a courtesy to our families and staff, at this point and operationally, it is nearly impossible to keep up. Therefore, we will no longer be sending these letters out to you. We encourage our families with immune-compromised students to work directly with their classroom teachers to learn whether any COVID case may directly affect their student so they may make the best decision for their child. Next week we will be establishing a new reporting system for you to view the current district case numbers on our website and will share with you where it can be seen.
