June 7, Important Update on Student Meal Funding

Dear Oxford Parents/Guardians,

During the COVID-19 pandemic the federal government funded a program allowing all students access to free meals. Congress has recently declined to continue funding this program, therefore, the free meals will come to an end at the end of the 2021-22 school year.  All families will need to carry a positive balance in their student’s school meal accounts when school begins in the fall.  You may begin depositing money into student accounts at any time to prepare for the cost of school lunches next year. Information on meal prices for the 2022-2023 school year will be available soon.  If your student currently has a negative lunch account balance, we encourage you to pay it off as soon as possible and then begin depositing money into the account to prepare for the 2022-2023 school year.

Please note that SendMoneytoSchool, the program the district has used in the past for school lunch accounts, has changed to Family Portal.  When you log in to your SendMoneytoSchool account, it will redirect you to the new Family Portal.  You will need to do an update to your account by entering your email address (preferably the same one you use for SendMoneytoSchool) then following the link provided.

We understand the change in school meal funding may cause worry for some of our families, however, there is action you can take to determine if your student will qualify for free or reduced meals for next school year. After July 1, 2022 the 2022-2023 free and reduced meal application will be available for parents and guardians to complete on our website. Completing this application is the only way to be considered for free or reduced meals next school year.

Finally, the Free Summer Feeding program will be happening once again this year. It is open to the public Monday through Friday beginning June 13 through August 12 and available at both Oxford Elementary School and Lakeville Elementary School. Breakfast will be served from 8:00 am -9:30 am and lunch will be served from 11:00 am-12:30 pm.  There will be no food service on Monday, July 4. These meals are free to students’ birth thru 18 years old. These meals must also be enjoyed onsite and are not available to be carried out. Adults are welcome to purchase a meal for $5.25.

If you have any concerns or questions, please contact our Food Service Department at 248-969-5167.

Sincerely,
Patty Silorey
