August 29, Update from OCSO on OK2Say Tip

Dear Oxford Schools Community,

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) has just authorized information we are now allowed to release to our families and staff regarding the OK2Say tip that we learned about the morning of August 15, 2023. We are sharing this update district-wide in the event those beyond our high school families heard about this situation. Although the OCSO will be releasing a more detailed press release in the near future, below includes the information we are now able to share with you directly from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office:

“Oxford schools and SRO received an OK2Say tip.

SRO investigated the tip and located a possible suspect out of state.

With the assistance from an outside agency (out of state).  The suspect was physically identified and verified.  During the investigation, the suspect gave a confession to making the threats.

The out of state agency is currently pursuing charges against the suspect.

The suspect had no means to carry out the threats which he had made.”

We are very grateful for our partnership with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. Tremendous gratitude goes out to our School Resource Officers for their diligent work and persistence with authorities across state lines to ensure this person was identified, investigated, and will be brought to justice.

Sincerely,
Dr. Vickie Markavitch
Superintendent
