February 1, Upcoming Safety Drills

Dear Oxford Schools Community,

I am writing to inform you about an important safety drill that will be taking place throughout the month of February on our campuses. We will be assessing whether all exterior doors are locked throughout the district. The district expectation is that all exterior doors are locked except for a one point of entry into a secure area.

I want to emphasize that this is only a drill, not a real threat. The goal of the drill is to make sure our doors are secure, locking mechanisms are working, and other security measures are functioning properly. The unexpected person will not be armed with a real or prop weapon while conducting the drill.

If the unexpected visitor enters through an unlocked exterior door, they are instructed to report to the main office and ask to speak with the principal. This emergency response drill will help us pinpoint any vulnerabilities in our safety protocols and allow us to make the necessary improvements. The idea of an intruder drill may seem alarming, but practice drills like these are standard operating procedures for schools to ensure preparedness.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or questions about this drill or other aspects of our safety protocols.

Sincerely,

Dr. Vickie L. Markavitch
Superintendent
